Have just heard that Briggs UK are laying off 60 engineers by X Mas. And Hyster may be laying off in the UK as well engineers and sales staff. Any one heard this or are they just rumours.

Brigg are on the way out.
they cannot compete with the big boys as they are
not big in the vna side of the business
and the yard at cannot is bursting at the seams.
ps if you want a truck that has done 20.000 hours and 1 owner briggs is the place

You say compete with the big boys, but I think you will find that it is the so called big boys that are in the S**t!! Big turnover does not always mean big profit as most of the UK big boys show!

i use to work for briggs myself and could see the trouble looming back in 2007,when they started doing roadside calls on compressers and the new tailift section,i new then they were in trouble then so it obviously got a lot worse , we had a good team , nice bunch of guys

its only because of the holding company sammonds in the states that its still running i think
they are the main financial arm of the group ,finning new they were runnnig at a loss, and
needed to offload  well they certainly did that ok , i really don t think that sammonds new what they were taking
on its cost them a lot of money , and i think they will fall at some stage soon

well just before i left we all had to do a compresser course, for the underfloor van type (water board etc )and while we were all on that , the tailift section was being formed about 12 engineers with trucks built to do loler inspection s weight testing and repairs , not long after i got out of it , as no overtime and only basic wage , so went on to do
contract engineering , buses and trucks, platforms , was going well until this credit crisis then it just evaporated , so not doing much just now

THEY WILL NEED A *** LOAD OF SKIPS TO PUT THEM TRUCKS IN CANNOCK IN I DONT THINK THAT THERE IS A SCRAP YARD IN THE MIDLANDS THAT WILL HOLD THAT LOT
MIND YOU YOU CAN ALWAYS PUT ONE ON EACH ROUND ABOUT IN CANNOCK INSTEAD OF THE DAFFS

perhaps they could start to park some of the stuff on the hills around the place , it is a crying shame it all has come to this , but its been said before many times the engineer on the ground is the one that makes the whole thing tick , they seemed to dis associate us guys we were never anything other than a tool for them too use ,they never listened to our comments or recomedations to make things move in the right direction , and selling or hiring everthing up short to gain a fraction of a already thin budget , well the writing was on the wall after that !
