Looking for the factory recommended/required transmission fluid for the V80D.  We understand that there are two options for the transmission on this unit.  Powershift or Hydrostatic.  We have been told ATF for the hydrostatic and TDTO for the powershift.  How do we determine which tranny we have and are the fluids listed correct?

ask a cat tech to look? How do you change directions? (with a foot control or lever?) what does the transmission look like? what color is the oil it has now?

If you check your operators manual you will find fluid types along with capacities. If you have do not have an operators manual you should contact your Cat dealer and get one. By law every machines is required to have an operators manual.

The forward/reverse is lever actuated.  I'm going to go check the truck for the owners manual.  Do you know if it should be under the seat or where it might be located?

cownd, this unit is so young it may not have had a pouch behind the seat when new, and may not have had seat belts when new either, (but they have to have seatbelt, hip restraints and a manual now), and Cat had offered free retrofits for years, but no longer...

The V80D and C used a 2 speed Borg Warner Powershift transmission. I worked for the Cat dealer many years and never saw a V80 offered with hydrostatic trans.. Any Dextron will work- we use 303 Tractor Hydraulic oil from O'Reilly. It has a much better wear additive package. Hydraulic oil does not have friction additive and cannot be used in a disc type transmission.
