I bought forklift truck (Toyota 7FGF25. Year 2002) at auction, it ran ok and started fine. When I went to collect it a week and a half later it started up ok and ran for about ten minutes. It then started to cut out and eventually would not start. I checked the gas bottle and it seemed empty, so I fitted a new one. It started with much difficulty (needing a great deal of cranking on the starter motor).
Once I got it home it would not start at all, just plenty of loud bangs. Do I have to start it on petrol and then turn over to gas, (It has no petrol in the tank), or should it start on gas. Do I have to bleed it when a new bottle is fitted. Is there anything I can do or is it necessary to get in a qualified forklift truck mechanic (I am ok around petrol and diesel engines, but no experience with gas engines).
Is there anywhere I can get a service manual/operators handbook download.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello johnmowcop,
Make sure you have a good battery with at least 13.5 volts. Check to see if you have a good spark. I think you may have some condensation in the distributor. If all is good, check to see if you are getting propane fuel to the carburetor. If you don't you will have to check the propane lock off and converter. Get a licensed technician to preform this.

Hello Prentice.

Thank you very much for your advice, it was condensation within the distributor. A good drying out with an hot air gun as done the trick.

I must say I was sceptical about condensation within the distributor, but you were certainly spot on.

The only problem is I have had to weld up the silencer (muffler), all the cranking over with the gas on and the associated bangs has split the silencer box. As an aside, I would have thought there should be some protection against a build up of gas within the system should start up not take place.
