Hi kev
The vw is ok to strip nothing you wont have seen before,You will probably find a bent con rod if engine was locked up with the water.
I had a customer do the same,They jet washed the truck while it was running and squirted water into air intake locking the engine. We scrapped the engine and fitted a recon unit..
Cheers

This reminds me of a incident my friend had years ago. He worked for a company that would remove weeds from lakes around docks, etc. They used a flat boat that had a paddle wheel type thing that would cut the weeds and lift them out of the water and place them on the deck of the boat. It was powered by a 4 cylinder motor. They over loaded the boat with weeds, on one side, and it slowly rolled over. The air intake hit the water and went under with the motor running at full speed. The motor blew up like a handgrenade. Everything broke into pieces, block, crank, head. He said it was pure luck no one got hit with the pieces.

i am now the proud owner of 2 bent conrods yes 2 . parts on order just need the torque settings and other info for rebuild if someone would be kind enough . thought i was gonna have to take the engine out but the sump cdropped off in situ . i messed up a bit when i pulled off the camshaft pulley, i thought it would be on a key not a taper fit so rebuild maybe tricky

Hi kev could be a record 2 bent rods quite impressive...
Let me know what torque settings you need i will sort them out for you,As for the cam shaft pulley you may need the timing tool that fits behind the vacuum pump on the opposite end of the cam shaft from the belt, they are available from VW dealers and are not that expensive and come in handy if you come across a snapped belt.

If you cant get the tool its a bit of a guess unless you marked the camshaft before taking of the pulley.
The gas trucks have key drive pulleys, but all diesels have taper fit???

Let me know what you need,
cheers herald

got truck back together , finally . starts and runs fine but wouldn,t travel full speed .seeked some advise locally and found faulty air mas sensor . changed it for new , now truck travels fine just like before engine damage , but when left over night , when started it kicks out loads of white smoke which clears after a few seconds . tested glowplugs 1-3 read 0.3 ohms , no4 read 0.6 ohms . think i,ve found the problem here but any thoughts would be helpfull . cheers
