OBUS,

Unfortunately, the previous Forklift Action discussion forum, which was initiated back in December 2005, accomplished nothing other than presenting an opportunity to bash Toyota, it's competitors, Forklift Action, and USAC.  Understanding this discussion forum may produce the same results despite your request for only constructive responses, I welcome you to contact me directly should you have any questions regarding the testing USAC performed for Toyota.

Respectfully,

Martin Boyd

The discussion went there only because of toyota's statement, so don't confuse apples and oranges. As to private calls - why is such a secrecy???:-)

If it is clear and fair - show it, explain it in forum....

Admin - I am OK, but if you want you can ban me as you did in December.

I believe that this website is an industry forum for the discussion of the past, present, and future of an industry that many of us have devoted our entire careers to improve.  It is not a courtroom. Martin Boyd is a respected and knowledgeable member of the forklift industry and has offered to talk with you personally. Take him up on his offer and then report back to this forum on the results.

If you are questioning the methodology of the USAC test I believe you should contact the testers: USAC.  While you believe you are putting TMHU on the spot, you are actually accusing USAC of dishonesty.  USAC is an expert in the field of automotive power trains.  Are you suggesting that they are not aware of how to conduct a meaningful testing procedure? Who else would you suggest Toyota approach for this type of test?

I believe many folks have missed what I consider to be the real point of the USAC test: taking responsibility for improving our own industry without government intervention.  Surely all manufacturers in the forklift industry agree that our industry needs to do the following three things: 1) help our customers be more competitive in world markets by reducing fuel costs; 2) help cleanup our environment through reduced fuel usage; and 3) to help our country become less dependent on fossil fuels by reducing the use of fossil fuel based energy sources. Would you agree?

Toyota has started a process of competition, through the commissioning of the USAC test, which will ultimately reduce forklift fossil fuel usage. Thrown the gauntlet down, so to speak.  I encourage each manufacturer in our industry to approach USAC, or other respected testing services, conduct their own tests and publish the results.

No matter who achieves first place, the very process of the competition will result in a leaner and more competitive industry. And the real winners will be our customers, the environment, and our country.
