We are currently discussing our wage rise for 2007.I was wondering if there was some database of earnings for the UK. Or,if anybody would like to include their salary and include wether field engineer or technical. And if any bonus is paid by your employer be it Profit related or just on parts sales, standby payments etc...
I'm sure this information would give us all an idea as to what other FLT companies pay engineers
Regards Alan

Hi mate, pretty much the same as what i am on,apart from no bonus.Overtime can make up a decent wage. There is no standby payment, but a call-out you are paid £50 plus your O/T rate for hours worked. We've tried to squeeze a little more but the boss came back with "you are paid more than other FLT companies". Thanks FLTA !!!.
Fit more parts and they can pay what we are asking, but it seems climate, mostly new rental fleet and customers not wanting to pay for chargeable work has a knock on effect.
Thanks for replying,Alan

gentlemen . best paid field engineers in uk are self-employed guys working from the back of there vans . very little overheads and no fatcat bosses creaming off the profit to fund the beamers and jags in the carpark . we do all the hard graft in all the crap sites in all weathers and get paid rubbish . here endeth my rant
. good day to you!!!

Hi Kevin i agree we could earn more self employed, but i have worked with guys who have tried this and they always seem to struggle with cashflow, with  the cost of flt parts being expensive and customers on 60,90+120 days credit it is difficult to operate under these terms unless you have got big money behind you.

hello herald . we get £50 a callout and time and a half as long as we are out . plus commision on all new and used sales leads . payment for all service contracts signed up and £5 per tyre sold. new incentive scheme launched this month is if your region hits a quarterly profit target you get 600 smackers in the wage packet . they just trying to make us work harder

That sounds like plenty of incentive to get stuck in.

You dont work for still do you herald?
As an independant we do have the flexibility of knocking on the directors door and trying to coax a wage increase out of him but, there are engineers who will not knock on doors that are more experienced but on a lower hourly rate.So it does not help  when they find out what you are on!!!
Going self employed is not that easy anymore i suppose you could start your own customer base whilst employed. Its easy fixing trucks and getting parts from our Belgium friends but what about truck hire?
