Living in the U.S. currently and will be relocating to the UK soon (next year). Just curious how bad/good the work scene is in the UK. with my skill set I haven't had a problem keeping a job here, even with the bad economy. I'll be living in the London area (north or west of London 20-30 min. out.)

Oh yes, still coming over, there's nothing going to change that. Just sorting out paperwork now with the consulate.

Got to agree with tony it does not really matter how good you are their are no forklift jobs available,a colleague of mine was made redundant with 25yr under his belt,he has tried since last December to get back into forklifts but could not get anything at all.
He has now took a non skilled job just to get some money in.
Although saying that i saw a job on the internet  last night for a field service engineer, must be experienced on gas, diesel+electric 40hrs per week, and wait for it  paying NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE!!!
Any takers?

Interesting all the negativity about the UK, why we Brits talk down our own country annoys the hell out of me. I know of a number of Americans (and other nationalities) who are perfectly happy here and even prefer it. If you feel that bad about the country then why live here? It may not be perfect but where is..

I was not being negative about the uk the original post was asking about the current job situation at the minute and as we all know there are no jobs especially in forklifts.
You are correct about this country being ok, but you have got to agree it is going down hill with overcrowding, unemployment, crime,HUGH national debt that we are going to have to  work until way post 65 to pay back,MP's who are  on the take all the time and even though lots of them are already millionaires are making us pay for their Hobnobs etc.

Britain is ok but believe me it is no longer Great Britain, more the shame.

here in the USA, we want you to include the crummy Government run Health care system much more, when you complain about your country... we are complaining about British health care here almost every day, and your failure to list it at least 3 times in your above rant just ruins our radio talk show provided impressions about "socialized and or Government run medicine/health care", so get on the stick there guys... complain about the "death panels" at least as often as you complain about unemployment.

Too much blue sky thinking has gone to your head methinks VBoost. If you can't see the blatantly obvious what hope is there for the rest of us in this country that is being destroyed from within! Herald is right.

Here in the USA, there is a move to change our health care system,
in our "Newsradio" talk shows we hear on and on about how bad the UK (and every other "nationalized" ) system is. our radio would have us believe that there are Government panels that decide who lives and dies, in your country, and we  will have the same here if we let the government have ANY say in our health care.
personally I think it is wonderful you DON'T understand.

Richard C,

Seems this thread really got off track but I surmise you are still on track to move to the UK in spite of what has been stated here.

Good Luck & When You see the Queen tell her Hello from all of us.

eh, threads usually do get off track...it doesn't bother me...kinda amusing actually.

yes i am moving, thats not going to change. i have legal reasons i am not going to leave until next year.

i have dual citizenship but have lived my whole life in the U.S. just visiting back to the UK every so often. currently working for a independent and living in the central valley.

i have no family left here..they've all moved back to the UK over the last few years, so I'm going too.

Forget the UK, much as it greives me to say it being a keen Jackist or more accurately Georgist, (sorry Kevin). China is the future been there, and S**T myself in what I saw.......you may have an opinion to which your entitled, but like Vietnam, " You dont know man , you were never there"..or maybe you have and understand.
