Kalmar, which is part of Kone Cargotec, has acquired the Dutch companies Peinemann Kalmar CV and Peinemann Kalmar Rental BV from parent organisation the Peinemann Group for an undisclosed sum.
Peinemann Kalmar CV and Peinemann Kalmar Rental BV will be renamed Kalmar Nederland and Kalmar Rental respectively and will continue operating from Hoogvliet in the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Kalmar Nederland will continue to focus on sales and servicing of counterbalanced equipment and terminal tractors while Kalmar Rental BV will continue to develop rental and fleet management activities.
Kalmar Industries president and CEO Christer Granskog cited the companies' "good customer service" and "long-standing experience in the rental business" as major reasons for the acquisition.
"The acquisition also reflects our intention to become more directly involved in one of the world's most active ports," Granskog said.
Managing director of the acquired companies Ad Kornet and the 37 other employees will continue in their positions.
Kalmar, which was a minority shareholder in the newly acquired companies, now owns up to two thirds of the companies' shares, Granskog said.
