Indesit Company UK Ltd is the UK's market leader in white goods with the Hotpoint and Indesit brands.
Part of the UK business includes the in-house Logistics Operation, Indesit Company Logistics, which operates a central warehouse in Raunds Northants as well as a National Home Delivery Network.
Indesit Company also has manufacturing and finished goods warehouses throughout Europe, including Poland and Russia.
In order to further reduce product, fork truck and infrastructure damage and improve health & safety controls still further, Indesit Company Logistics decided to use a technology based solution to control operator access to trucks, improve the pre-shift safety check process and identify impact events on the 24 trucks based in the Raunds warehouse.
The scope of the project was Europe wide with an objective to implement a standard solution.
After a comprehensive product evaluation and tender process involving five potential providers the initial UK phase of the project was awarded to Davis Derby.
"It was important that we had a standard solution that could be rolled out across our European sites irrespective of truck make. Transferability is also important given the varying age of our truck fleet across Europe" said Paul Pinfold, Indesit Logistics Fleet Operations Manager.
Careful consideration of the unique set of challenges at their Distribution Centre at Raunds, Northants, led
Davis Derby to recommend the
TruckLOG TK5 Fleet Management system with the shock sensor option.
Smart Cards were selected as the means to restrict vehicle access to authorised drivers while the system's adjustable shock sensors were enhanced by fitting bump strips enabling even glancing contact to be detected.
While helping Indesit meet its health and safety obligations through controlled driver access and a
customised Pre-Operational check system the TK5 shock option integrates with management software to report on impacts above the company's acceptable threshold. This in turn promotes responsible driving among operatives and reduces damage related costs.
Paul Pinfold comments, "This system provides the controls, and delivers the information we need, to be able to further reduce damage within our warehouse. The Smart Card system allows only drivers, who are suitably qualified, trained and authorised to operate our forklifts and the adjustable shock system allows us to identify any individual training requirements".
The
TruckLOG TK5 Fleet Management System has been chosen by Indesit at corporate level and will be a progressive implementation across its other European sites.
