To work, and grow, in markets which are increasingly dynamic and competitive, companies need a constant increase in productivity and efficiency.Something in which this necessity materializes is the request to move always heavier loads in always shorter times. At the same time, in their roadmaps companies want to increase safety and comfort for the operators and reduce programmed maintenance and unexpected machine halts.
This evolution clearly involves warehouse trucks and, amongst them, pallet movers, which, born a long time ago to deal with few tonnes at a time, are now requested to deal with loads that may be 10 (or more) tonnes in weight.
To satisfy the requests of a growing number of heavy industries asking for machines designed for extremely heavy duty with heavy loads,
ICEM, being present in the pallet truck market for almost 50 years, has developed the
"high capacity TP series", a broad range of pallet movers rated 4 to 12 tonnes.

Version with custom forks (3500mm length, 1700mm width). |
Continuously evolving, like the market they're being designed for, these pallet trucks are available in a virtually infinite number of variations and trims: with or without lifting, with or without foldable platform and side guards for the operator, with or without ride-on (or sit-on) opeator place, equipped with custom lifting systems or attachments (eventually supplied by the final customer), ...
Every single truck is custom built for its specific task, a process during which every single component is optimized upon customer needs: from the lifting equipment (type, size, stroke, ...) to the functional component (drive motor

and transmission, lifting
powerpack, battery voltage and capacity, choppers, inverters and other electrical components, ...) to the number, type and arrangement of wheels, nothing is left to chance or overlooked.
It's difficult to say how far the high capacity tp series can go, as their modular structure allows for coupling many drive units to a limitless number of lifting assemblies and, since new models of each of the 2 halves of the machine are being developed as long as customers ask for, the list of possibilities is growing everyday.
Born with a 4 tonnes chassis, for example, a 2nd chassis was introduced to add another 2 tonnes of capacity. Later, heavier drive units were introduced to reach 8, 10 and 12 tonnes. And the roadmap, at present, already includes evolutions for up to 18 tonnes just waiting to go into production as the first customer will ask for them.

Until now, lifting forks and platforms have gone up to 8 meters in length, close to 3 meters wide and almost 1 meter high. This list, however, is just a list of what has already been made: next month it will be probably be obsolete.
Pulling tie-rod lifting system, standard on all the models just like assisted steering, deserves a special consideration, as it allows the lifting mechanism to offer a number of very important pros: first of all, it makes possible to have low profile forks (or platform) even with extremely heavy loads (for example, 95mm up to 7 tonnes or 160mm up to 10 tonnes); second, maintenance is easy to perform and extremely limited, thanks to the simple cinematics of the system (compared to rods-based parallelogram lifting systems); third, the presence of regulators in the middle of the tie-rods allows fine-tweaking of lifting system and compensation of plays due to wear of slide blocks and bushings, which work at their best for all of their lifetime.

When talking of standard pallet trucks, at least larger industries may think of getting a backup machine in case something goes wrong. But when thinking of a heavy pallet mover, there's no room for a backup, then the machine must be reliable, efficient, safe, ergonomic and able to deal with its duty, for heavy it may be. At
ICEM all of these words still have a meaning and that's why there's still our brand on many high capacity pallet trucks.
