KEYTROLLER'S START-SMART is a simple extremely rugged keypad ignition system that is used on variety of vehicle applications. The device is available in a code only or a code and RFID card reader version. The device will fit to any make or model vehicle be it electric, gas, LPG or diesel and is designed to keep untrained and unauthorized operators from starting the vehicle. START SMARTS have been installed on wide variety of equipment like forklifts, electric jacks, skid steers, backhoes, cranes, personel carriers, golf carts and even military Humvees.

STARTING AN ENGINE OR ELECTRIC MOTOR

After enabling with a valid code or RFID card, the operator can start and stop the engine directly from the keypad eliminating the ignition key completely----NO MORE lost, stolen or broken keys! Once enabled, the driver starts the engine by pressing the START button which engages both the ignition and starter relay---in the case of an electric vehicle only the ignition relay is used to power up the vehicle. Once the vehicle is started, the operator removes his finger from the keypad and the starter relay drops out (IC vehicle only) and the ignition relay stays engaged. To stop the vehicle, the operator presses the STOP button or disengages a seat belt or gets off the vehicle and the seat or foot switch logs out the device.



INSTALLATION:

START SMART'S small profile 89mmX75mmX20mm (3.5" X 3" X .75") fits easily to any dashboard and the device will fit to any 12, 24, 36 or 48VDC vehicle. The unit consists of 2 components:

1. A completely weather sealed keypad that is potted with liquid gel to prevent water or condensation intrusion to the PCB board. It is commonly used in freezers and the toughest outdoor weather conditions and temperature extremes.
2. Dual relay module with in line weatherproof connector to the keypad.

All electrical connections are made at the relay module.

1. 2 wires to power (12VDC or optional voltage converter for 24, 36 or 48 VDC vehicles)
2. 3 wires to ignition switch (for IC vehicle---power, ignition and start) or 2 wires (for EL vehicle power and ignition)
3. 1 wire to auxiliary input (seat switch, seat belt etc)

EVENT LOGGING:

All log in and log out events are time and date stamped to the second so a manager can see exactly when the vehicle was started, how long it ran and when it was stopped. Logged events assist management with driver accountability and maintenance scheduling. The unit also logs hour meter ignition on usage. Event usage logs and hour meters can be downloaded via a USB connection to the device from a laptop where events data can be charted and graphed utilizing START SMART Windows software.

PROGRAMMING:

START SMART is unique in that user codes or RFID cards can be installed or removed in two ways.

1. By using a PROGRAMMERS code or RFID card and using a sequence of keypad presses to insert (or remove) the operator's code/card credentials.
2. By using START SMART PC software which will allow the programmer to create a user database for all the drivers codes, RFID cards and expiration dates. The programmer simply checks the appropriate drivers for a unit and presses the PROGRAM button to insert all the drivers at once.

ANTI-THEFT

START SMART is available with KEYTROLLER'S anti theft wireless relay system which prevents the "hotwiring", starting and theft of equipment left unattended. With this option a wireless relay is inserted into the starter circuit of the vehicle. When a valid code or RFID card enables the device, a wireless signal is immediately sent---enabling the hidden wireless relay in the starter for 45 seconds. At this point the engine is started-because there is power in the starter circuit. When a thief attempts to "hot wire" the engine, he is not aware there is a hidden wireless relay in the starter circuit and the engine simple will not start----theft prevented!

DURABLE:

This is not a toy! It is designed to last the life of the machine with trouble free operation. Models are available in both SSD (Duraswitch) and SSM (Metal Piezo) type keypads which are designed to millions of keypad "throws" and completely potted and sealed.

NO EFFECT ON VEHICLE:

All the engine knows is that it was started---in this case by a starter and an ignition relay controlled by the START SMART as opposed to an ignition key turned by the driver. So there is NO effect on the vehicle computer or diagnostics in any way at all.
