Doosan hope to incorporate some elements of its Intelligent Concept Forklift into its next product series. |
The Doosan Institute of Technology's Industrial Design Centre has created a futuristic forklift called the "Intelligent Concept Forklift" (ICF).
Doosan claims the ICF has a host of radical design technology and will push the boundaries of materials handling.
Doosan UK sales manager Paul Watson says that investment in new technology with proven components "will shape and secure" the South Korean manufacturer's future in the forklift industry.
Based on the CX and CL construction equipment models, Doosan claims the ICF combines "maximum usability and operation" with features that are efficient, environmentally friendly and safe.
Doosan is playing down the ICF's radical departure in design and stressing its design team's efforts to add practical enhancements. It lists the ICF's innovations as changes to the operator position, mast properties and drive train.
"Doosan is already a world leader in OLED (organic light-emitting device) technology and the ICF shows how [we] may eventually incorporate augmented reality systems into a heads-up display. A unique 'work guide system' enables operators to see information about their cargo and interpret the best work process they should apply to it, to maximise productivity and targets," the company says.
An extendable counterweight is expected to improve stability and increase loading capacity while maintaining the minimum turning radius.
Doosan says the electric ICF will meet all future international environmental standards as it is low on emissions and noise and does not consume fuel. It also has a highly efficient rechargeable battery that enables faster charging.
The ICF won't be in warehouses for some time, but Doosan hopes to incorporate some of its elements into its next product series. The first prototype is targeted for production in 2020.
