1.CeMAT 2002 - 80,000 EXPECTED
------------------------------
HANNOVER, Germany CeMAT 2002, the world's biggest materials handling exhibition, is a major part of the Hannover Messe, one of the world's largest trade fairs.

Organisers expect more than 1000 exhibitors and 80,000 trade visitors to attend CeMAT in the Hannover Messe open-air site, which will house a global preview of smart and automated materials handling and logistics solutions and the world's biggest display of forklifts and stackers.

The 2002 show focuses on the role the internet and technology have played in furthering the industry. Forrester Research says turnover in online logistics in Europe will increase from EUR63 billion in 2001 to EUR177 billion by 2005. Over the same period, forecasts for the entire materials handling sector suggest growth from EUR436 billion to EUR619 billion.

Forklifts remain indispensable to modern, efficient production and storage. Business consultants Frost & Sullivan estimate the volume of the European hardware market - currently at USD3.9 billion - will grow to USD6.4 billion by 2005.

According to the German Federal Office of Statistics, materials handling technology production topped DEM19 billion last year, second only to office and information technology in the mechanical engineering and machine sector.

**Forkliftaction.com team members will be at the show, and are eager to meet readers and forklift industry professionals. Look out for our bright orange shirts.**

2.TCM SLASHES 2001 PROFIT, SALES FORECASTS
------------------------------------------
OSAKA, Japan TCM Corporation has slashed its estimated group net profit from JPY2.2 billion to JPY330 million for the year ended March 31.

The forklift maker, affiliated with Hitachi Zosen Corporation, also reduced its sales forecast from JPY81 billion, forecast in November, to JPY75.5 billion, according to the Jiji Press.

TCM would report a JPY1.22 billion loss on shares, whose values had dropped during the year, hurting its consolidated bottom line, the company said.

For the 2002 financial year, which started on April 1, TCM said it expected a group net profit of JPY2.05 billion and sales of JPY78 billion.

3.MHEDA 2002: PACK YOUR BAGS
----------------------------
MARCO ISLAND, United States The Material Handling Equipment Distributors' Association's (MHEDA) 2002 Annual Convention, themed "It's a Jungle Out There... Let MHEDA Be Your Guide" will see materials handling industry figures converge on Marco Island, Florida, from April 27 to May 1.

With the economic downturn magnified by the events of September 11, MHEDA 2002 is about banding together. Through a range of informative sessions presented by industry heavy-weights, the convention aims to demonstrate strategies to stabilise the industry, and provide functional examples of how professionals can better their individual businesses, the MHEDA said.

Presenters include materials handling icons such as Don Buttrey, Michael Marks, Herb Greenberg and Bart Basi, who will provide inside tips on areas of the trade such as sales, human resources, business valuation and finance. MHEDA members will also share their own personal accounts of working in the industry and the strategies they use to be successful in challenging times.

The Manufacturers' Fair will showcase new products tailored to suit the changing needs of the materials handling customer.

4.NAME CHANGE FOR LONG REACH BRUDI DEALER
-----------------------------------------
ADELAIDE, Australia Long Reach Brudi Pacific, South Australia's exclusive distributor for BHS Battery Handling Systems, Roncari, Long Reach and Brudi attachments, has changed its name to South Australian Attachments, or Sattach Pty Ltd.

Director Ian Budenberg said the company, which was independent of the Long Reach and Brudi companies, had a comprehensive choice of products for the forklift industry. "We believe we can provide the most effective solutions to our customers' challenges," he said.

Sattach's "greatest asset" was its ability to offer specialised products, designed and manufactured in Adelaide, to meet the unique requirements of the Australian forklift market, Mr Budenberg said.

5.FORKLIFT MAN BREAKS SAFE TO BUY CAR
-------------------------------------
SAGINAW, United States A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to one year's jail for using a forklift to break open a safe last November.

John Rowell was also ordered to pay USD7000 in restitution and USD600 in fines, and received five years' probation and six months' electronic monitoring for breaking into a building and safe breaking at a conference centre.

Rowell had started work at the centre only weeks before the crime, and used his staff key to enter the building. He used a forklift to break open the safe to steal cash.

Rowell used the money to buy a Chevrolet Monte Carlo the same day, the court heard. Detectives arrested him at a friend's house two days later.
